CHATTER FROM THE DUGOUT
Volume Number 1 August 9, 2011 Issue Number 3
WERE YOU THERE? Did you see the children playing baseball on their new field? There was excitement in the air, the children were full of joy and pride and thrilled to play baseball.
Some of the Washington National players were there, including Davey Johnson, National manager and Screech, National mascot: Pitchers...Jordan Zimmerman and Sean Burnett and 3rd Bse coach Bo Porter. They pitched to the kids, helped them bat and run the bases. It was fun to wach Screech help some of the player bat.
In addition to the Nationals, we had other celebrities including Mark & Cindy Lerner, Lt. Gov. Brown, Ike Leggett and Craig Rice. Also Mike Riley and Mary Bradford from Park & Planning and Gabe Abronoz from the Recreation Department.
We had some great children there to be Buddies…the Germantown Hawks, a youth baseball team, in their uniforms; Kiwanis Key Club members from the local high schools also helped as Buddies. Everybody got to participate and enjoy the children playing baseball.
