"We make a living by what we earn, but we make a life by what we give,"
- Winston Churchill
In 1945 the Kiwanis Club of Bethesda was formed by local businessmen. Since then the club has contributed millions of dollars to help improve the lives of disadvantaged children in Montgomery County, Maryland. After 64 years the men and women of this Kiwanis Club continue to support their community (check their web site -bethesdakiwanis.com to learn more about Kiwanis and how to become a member).
In 2006 they added another project, this time they are trying to build a baseball field for disabled children and young adults. They believe that every child deserves a chance to play baseball. The project is called the MIRACLE LEAGUE and we are the Miracle League of Montgomery County, MD.
Our mission is to:
Provide opportunities for children with disabilities to play Miracle League baseball, regardless of their abilitiiesPromote community support and sponsorship of a Miracle LeaguePromote the construction of special facilities that meet the unique needs of Miracle League players and familiesWe cannot change or cure the medical issues life has dealt disabled children. What we can do is to provide them with an opportunity to experience the joy and benefits that come from playing our National pasttime...baseball.
We encourage families with disabled children to contact us, and help to complete this unique project. Anyone interested in the Miracle League concept please step forward and help build the first Miracle League field in Maryland. Bethesda Kiwanis welcomes you to join us, either as a member or as a supporter of your community. We need volunteers and we need the land to build the field on.
